One of the more insightful, if not difficult, ideas that René Girard reveals is that it’s our similarities that drive conflict, not our differences. I say difficult because, well, who wants to admit commonality with certain people? The admission requires me to operate with humility about my own motives even as I esteem the humanity of my, would be adversary. (I hear JC in the background … love your neighbor as yourself.)
